WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, (D-N.J.) met with a group of undocumented, former employees from the Trump National Golf Clubs in Bedminster, N.J. and Westchester County, N.Y. These employees were fired after publicly revealing their immigration status, and are now living under the constant fear of being subjected to deportation or other retaliation by the Trump Administration. According to them, Trump National in Bedminster continues to employ undocumented immigrants.

On December 6, 2018, the New York Times reported that the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, employed undocumented workers and that at least two supervisors at the club knew about their immigration status and helped workers evade detection. According to the story, Ms. Morales made it known when she was first hired that she didn’t have work authorization, but was told to use false documents.

“I applaud the courage of these hardworking immigrants. The hardships they experienced while working for Trump National speaks volumes about President Trump’s hypocrisy, when he rails against immigrants while simultaneously exploiting their status and labor to enrich himself,” said Sen. Menendez “I’m concerned to hear first-hand how President Trump’s businesses allegedly provided false documentation to undocumented immigrants, and how there might be others still working for Trump properties under these conditions. I plan to lend my voice to raise awareness about the plight of these and other immigrants working in such a hostile environment and support oversight efforts and investigations on this matter.”

Sen. Menendez met with four immigrants including two New Jersey residents:

  • Victorina Morales is an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala. She was hired by the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in 2013, and was provided false identification documents by her employers. Morales was terminated shortly after the New York Times story on the property. While she worked there, she suffered verbal and physical assault by her supervisors and was repeatedly threatened with deportation, if she came forward.
  • Sandra Diaz is an immigrant from Costa Rica. Diaz was undocumented during her tenure at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster from 2010 to 2013 and she too, was provided false identification documents by her employer, coerced to do certain jobs against her will, suffered physical and verbal abuse, and threatened with deportation.

A few days ago, the Washington Post reported the firing of about a dozen employees at Trump National Golf Club in Westchester County, N.Y., because of their immigration status. It is unclear how many undocumented employees are currently working at Trump properties.
