VIDEO: Menendez Channels Middle Class Americans in Hearing with Trump Treasury Secretary on Budget Priorities: “I guess on Wall Street, $1 trillion is nothing. In the lives of real people, it’s something.”

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, today questioned President Trump’s Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, regarding the Administration’s budget proposal that guts our investments in Medicaid and other programs that support the middle class in order to give massive tax breaks to the most privileged.

In a fiery exchange, Menendez asked Mnuchin a series of Yes or No questions including:

• Do you believe it’s a good idea to cut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy – Yes or No?
• Will the President adhere to his own budget and only sign a tax reform bill that doesn’t increase the debt – Yes or No?
• Will the President commit to the “Mnuchin rule” and not sign a tax reform bill that cuts taxes on the top 1 percent – Yes or No?
• Will the President sign a tax reform bill that doesn’t cut taxes for all families earning under $100K – Yes or No?
• Will the President sign a bill that gives more tax cuts to the top 1 percent than the middle class – Yes or No?
• Will the President sign a tax reform bill that doesn’t cut taxes on large corporations?

Mr. Mnuchin’s answers make clear whose side the Administration is on.
