WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) issued the following statement on the death of Cuban journalist and founder of the Hispanic State Parade of New Jersey Israel "Kiki" Romero Neninger:
"I am terribly saddened to learn today of the passing of Israel 'Kiki' Romero Neninger, a true leader and fixture in New Jersey's Hispanic community. For 30 years, I have had the privilege of calling Kiki my friend and ally in promoting freedom, democracy and justice for the people of Cuba.
"A journalist, writer and philosopher, Kiki followed in the footsteps of José Martí and became a tireless advocate for equality and unity in all countries of Latin America. He founded the Hispanic State Parade of New Jersey and dedicated his life to inspiring Hispanic-Americans living in the Metropolitan area.
"I extend my deep personal condolences to Kiki's family and the entire community left heartbroken by his tremendous loss."
