NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today released the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day:

"On Veterans Day, I join the people of New Jersey and Americans all across this nation in honoring the generations of veterans who have stepped up to serve our country, protect our people, and defend our democracy and the values we hold dear. When I think about America’s veterans I think about all they have achieved throughout our history, from liberating Europe from the grips of authoritarianism to dismantling networks of terror to advancing our national security interests around the globe.

“I believe that we must honor our veterans and their families not only with words but with action, and that begins with ensuring they receive the health care, education, and job opportunities they earned. And while we may never fully repay the debt we owe our servicemen and women, we all have an obligation to live up to the democratic ideals our veterans were willing to defend with their lives, from free and fair elections, to civil rights, to equal justice under the law, and opportunity for all. Today we thank our veterans for their service, and recommit ourselves to being a nation worthy of their sacrifice.”
