WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), author of the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act in the Senate, released the following statement on recent misinterpretations of the bill:

“The Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act is named for the son of Judge Esther Salas, who was shot and killed by an aggrieved plaintiff who targeted her as a Latina federal judge.  What happened to Judge Salas, her husband, and their son, should never happen again.  Our legislation would simply allow judges to request that the Administrative Office of the Courts remove personally sensitive information that could lead to identity theft or threaten the physical safety of them or their families.  In no way does our bill prevent journalists from reporting on matters of public concern.  It no way does it impede critical efforts to uncover ethical conflicts for the spouses of federal judges, including necessary reporting by the press.  Matters of public concern, such as previous places of employment would continue to be available to journalists.”
