NEWARK — U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement in response to last night’s rocket attack on a U.S. facility in Iraq's Kurdistan region:

“I strongly condemn yesterday’s attack in Erbil and send my condolences to the families of the U.S. contractor who was killed and the U.S. service member and other contractors who were injured. This latest attack demonstrates the importance of robust security cooperation between the Iraqi Security Forces and those of Iraqi Kurdistan; and I encourage the United States to continue to support security coordination efforts. The Iraqi people have suffered for too long under these kinds of brazen acts of violence, which only serve to undermine the sovereignty and stability of their nation.  The United States must continue to stand in support of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masoud Barzani and encourage Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Khadimi to pursue a full investigation of this attack.”
