NEWARK, NJ- U.S. Senator Robert Menendez today issued the following statement on the passing of Union County Sheriff Ralph Froehlich:

"Sheriff Froehlich was a dedicated lawman, an ardent protector of the innocent, and the consummate public servant who tirelessly worked to make Union County a better and safer place for everyone who came there to work, live and visit. Union County is surely a better place for the 23 years Ralph Froehlich served as its sheriff. I was honored to work with him on behalf of the safety of Union County residents and to promote many of his law enforcement views nationally. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Marlene; his children, grandchildren and his entire family; and all who had the privilege to know him and work with him."
