WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in celebration of the beginning of Black History Month, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) released the following statement:
"During Black History Month, we collectively honor the invaluable contributions of African Americans to our nation, celebrating their enrichment of our society, and remembering their heroic and pioneering accomplishments for social and political change. On this month and throughout the year, let us remember the greatness of our Nation is rooted in its diversity and the contributions of all its citizens. I look forward to once again joining New Jerseyans in celebrating the many ways African-Americans have shaped our nation’s history, and re-committing ourselves to the struggle towards social and economic equality for all Americans.”
On February 22, Senator Menendez will host his annual Standing on the Shoulders of Giants Black History Month Celebration, where the Senator will pay tribute to the rich history of African Americans during Black History Month. This year’s guest speaker will be Wade Henderson, President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and The Leadership Conference Education Fund. The event will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, New Jersey where the Reverend Gregory Jackson is the Senior Pastor.
