WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) has awarded $21,172,333 in federal Sandy relief grants to the State of New Jersey. The funds will go towards mitigation projects, debris removal reimbursements, and repair and clean-up efforts in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

“These grant awards are another firm step forward in our state’s path to full recovery from Superstorm Sandy." said Sen. Menendez. "This is most welcome relief for those who rose to the occasion and acted without hesitation to keep our families and neighborhoods safe, as well as those who continue doing the hard work remaining to rebuild and prepare our state for future storms.”

“The road to recovery from Superstorm Sandy continues for many communities throughout our state,” said Sen. Booker. “Today’s funding announcement represents another step in the right direction to restoring all that was lost and strengthening our state for future storms.”

The specific grant awards follow:

  • $1,671,739.09 to the Township of Little Egg Harbor for force account personnel, equipment and contractual services for debris removal throughout the township as a result of Superstorm Sandy.
  • $2,395,098.00 to Manasquan Borough for the use of contractors for the repair of the engineered dune damaged as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Manasquan will repair the engineered dune according to New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection guidelines.
  • $7,365,676.50 to Long Branch for the use of contract to provide mitigation measures of a steel sheet pile wall to protect the boardwalk, bluffs, bulkheads and roadway damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
  • $9,739,819.66 to the Port Authority of NY and NJ for labor and materials to lean the conduits and replace the wiring, splices, and ground cables of the Newark Liberty International Airport runway lighting damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
