NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $54,066,294 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) to support the revitalization of communities across New Jersey.
“Although this administration fails to realize the importance of investing in housing and community development programs, I will continue to fight for this critical funding to ensure communities across New Jersey can expand economic opportunities for their residents,” said Sen. Menendez, ranking member of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. “Investing in our communities spurs economic development, job opportunities and safe and affordable housing, which can help families overcome challenges and fulfill their potential.”
“I have seen firsthand the challenges many families face when trying to find a decent place to live and how access to safe and affordable housing can transform lives,” said Sen. Booker. “Federal investments like these are crucial to the economic development of New Jersey and will have long-lasting reverberations in our communities for years to come.”
The funding announced today comes from five grants designed to revitalize struggling neighborhoods and expand access to affordable housing. They are: The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), the HOME Investment Partnership (HOME), the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program, and the Housing Trust Fund (HTF).
