WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHA) has awarded $200,000 to the New Jersey State Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

The grant will support an array of state and local agencies in working collaboratively to reduce traffic congestion along New Jersey’s Northeast Corridor. Specifically, this grant will be used towards organizing and deploying Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) systems that promote the unified management and operations of the transportation system in New Jersey’s Northeast Corridor, including the primary routes and transit in proximity to the N.J. Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, U.S. 1&9, ultimately allowing various local partner agencies to collaborate and manage the transportation corridor as a single cohesive system.

“These funds will help ensure local agencies are working together to facilitate travel for New Jerseyans and commuters who rely heavily on the Northeast Corridor,” said Sen. Menendez. “Our state’s economy is directly dependent on a reliable means of transportation, which is why we must continue to make these types of innovative investments to strengthen the safety, improve the travel time, and offer the latest information about our most transited roads.”

"New Jerseyans lose a lot of time to traffic congestion each year, which is why grants like this one to help alleviate traffic problems are good news for our state," said Sen. Booker. "But grants are just the beginning of the infrastructure investment we need grow our economy. The poor condition of our state's roads cost the average New Jersey driver $2,000 per year. That's why I'm committed to advocating for a robust and long-term federal investment in our nation's infrastructure that will create jobs, save families money, and benefit the greater Newark area and all of New Jersey."

Partnership agencies for this award include the NJDOT, TRANSCOM (a coalition of 16 transportation and public safety agencies in N.Y., N.J., and Conn.), N.J. Transit, N.J. Turnpike Authority, North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the municipalities of Elizabeth, Linden, Newark, Jersey City, and Woodbridge.
