NEWARK, N.J. Today, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Action Fund announced that U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) has scored a 100% on their Congressional Scorecard for his record on fighting for the rights of women and their families. AAUW Action Fund’s Congressional Voting Record, which reflects votes and co-sponsorships from January 2017 through September 14, 2018, provides critical information regarding the positions of Senators and Representatives on issues that are important to the mission and members of the organization.

“From equal pay and reproductive justice, to opposing right-wing nominees and defending the Affordable Care Act, I look at how every policy affects women before voting, and then I do what’s right for gender equality,” said Senator Menendez. “I’m proud to introduce the Equal Rights Amendment every Congress because I want my daughter, granddaughter and every woman to live in a nation where women’s equality is enshrined into our constitution. I know we will get there thanks to the incredible work of the American Association for University Women and countless women who have spent years marching, organizing and voting.”

A full copy of the Congressional Voting Record for the 115th Congress, where AAUW explains why certain votes were included, can be found on the AAUW Action Fund website here. Senator Menendez scored a 100% in large measure because of his actions regarding critical issues impacting women and girls, including:

  • Voting in favor of the Paycheck Fairness Act
  • Defending the Affordable Care Act from Republican Attempts to Repeal and Replace
  • Voting against the Republicans’ massive tax giveaway to corporations and the wealthiest Americans
  • Voting against confirming Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education
  • Voting against Kenneth Marcus to Serve as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education
  • Voting against confirming Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court (Menendez also voted against Brett Kavanaugh, but the AAUW report only includes votes through September 14, 2018)
  • Defending Title X Family Planning Program

“AAUW Action Fund congratulates Senator Menendez on his 100% score in the Congressional Voting Record for the 115th Congress,” said AAUW Chief Executive Officer Kimberly Churches. “Senator Menendez has consistently demonstrated his commitment to protecting women’s economic security and equal access to education. We thank him for his commitment and look forward to continue working together in the fight to advance equity for women and girls.”
