Washington - US Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) spoke today with the Cuban political dissident Jorge Luis Garcia Perez "Antunez" after his release this morning from prison. During the call, Antunez said he has no doubt that the beating he received and his imprisonment were a direct result of his testimony in the U.S. Senate last week. On Monday Senator Menendez called for an investigation of Antunez's arrest and beating.

Antunez was imprisoned by the Cuban government after he testified in a Senate Foreign Relation Western Hemisphere Subcommittee last week on the state of Cuba's civil society.
