Sens. Menendez, Booker Announce $186k in Fire Department Grants for Warren Township, Hampton and Indian Mills

NEWARK. NJ - U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) today announced $186,891 in federal grants to the Warren Township Rescue Squad, Hampton Fire Company and Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company & Shamong EMS. The funding is awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

"Our brave firefighters and emergency response personnel deserve nothing less than our unwavering and continuous support to their dedicated service," said Senator Menendez."I will continue fighting for vital programs that grant New Jersey's first responders access to federal aid for the equipment and training necessary to carry out their duties as safely and as efficiently as possible."

"These federal grants will provide much-needed support to the brave firefighters of Shamong, Warren, and Hampton," said Sen. Booker. "It is essential that our firefighters have access to cutting edge training and equipment, and have adequate staffing levels. I am committed to tirelessly advocating for grant programs that provide New Jersey with the resources to protect these brave men and women as they protect our communities."

The Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) awards include:

  • $36,880 to the Warren Township Rescue Squad for the installation of a Ply Vent System (PVS) at the squad's facilities.
  • $137,720 to the Hampton Fire Company for the purchase of personal breathing apparatus for firefighters.
  • $12,291 to the Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company & Shamong EMS for defibrillator updates to ambulances.

The AFG program provides funding to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel. These grants can be invested in training, protective equipment, fitness programs, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting operations and safety.
