Senator Menendez Congratulates Karin E. Elkis for 30 Years of U.S. Senate Service

BARRINGTON, N.J. - Calling her a dynamo of tireless commitment to public service, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) congratulated Karin Elkis, one of his closest senior advisors, on her 30 years working with New Jersey's U.S. Senators.

"Karin may have worked for a number of U.S. Senators and other top New Jersey officials, but throughout her career she has primarily been serving the people of New Jersey," said Senator Menendez. "Her political acumen, knowledge of government and tremendous energy have made Karin known to many people in New Jersey as a dynamo of tireless commitment to public service. I am but one of many public officials who have been honored to work with her, and I'm glad she's on my team. I couldn't be more proud to congratulate Karin Elkis on her 30 years of service in the United States Senate."

Karin was formally recognized for her 30 years of service with an award from the U.S. States Senate Committee on Rules and Administration on July 19. On August 29, Senator Menendez conferred the award to her at an event in Camden, N.J.

Karin worked as South Jersey Director for the late U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg beginning in the 1980s. Following Senator Lautenberg's retirement in 2001, Karin served in a similar capacity for U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine until he left for the New Jersey Governor's office in 2005. She has worked with Senator Menendez since he was first appointed and then elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. She served as State Director through Senator Menendez's 2012 re-election campaign and remains one of his closest advisors.

Karin began her career in New Jersey politics as a Chief of Staff to former Assemblyman Marty Herman.

Karin lives in Haddonfield with her husband, Steven Weinstein, General Counsel and Vice President of Governmental Relations at Rowan University and former partner at Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader and Blank Rome, LLP. Karin and Steve have three children, Noah, Lara, and Asher.
