WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez today applauded the appointment of U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan as the Obama Administration's point-person working closely with all levels of government in New Jersey and New York in recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy.

President Barack Obama announced the appointment earlier today.

"Secretary Donovan is no stranger to New Jersey. His work in developing affordable housing, including in our state, has been recognized throughout the nation," said Senator Menendez, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee's Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development.
"I am confident in Secretary Donovan's understanding of the magnitude of the challenges that we face in New Jersey, as well as his ability to help us meet those challenges," Menendez added. "I look forward to working with Secretary Donovan as we continue our recovery efforts, and offer any assistance I can to help him in his new and vitally important role."
