Newark, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), ranking member of the Senate’s the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, issued the following statement on the massive earthquake off the coast of Mexico that killed dozens and injured thousands last night.

“The U.S. and Mexico are inextricably linked by geography, people, and shared economic and security interests, and today our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims and the survivors who are still struggling in the aftermath of this devastating earthquake. As our nation continues to see an outpour of humanitarian and relief support due to recent natural disasters, so too must we swiftly extend a helping hand to our neighbors in Mexico. As the ranking member of the Senate’s Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, I will work arduously to ensure the United States government does our part in providing additional assistance to aid the survivors and support reconstruction efforts in Mexico and throughout the entire region.”
