Sen. Menendez Celebrates Martin Luther King Day

NEWARK, NJ - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) issued the following statement today honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"Today, I join New Jerseyans and all Americans in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a great American hero whose ideals continue to serve as a guidepost in the struggle for equal rights and justice for all.

"We celebrate Dr. King at a time when we need to reflect on the fundamental concept of community and service for which he stood. And as Congress considers key proposals that have a direct impact on the everyday lives of Americans and their families, there is no greater way to honor his legacy than to keep moving forward in extending the blessings of equality and liberty to all who share in Dr. King's dream.

"Let us honor his dream and what he stood for through our actions, and let's make that dream a reality for all of those in our country who are still struggling for economic opportunity and justice."

Sen. Menendez is celebrating the legacy of Dr. King this weekend at events hosted by Rev. Perry Simmons of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark and Rev. Gregory Jackson of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack.
