Sen. Menendez Announces Over $800,000 Grant for NJ Board of Public Utilities to Keep Pipelines Safe

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced today a $821,294 grant awarded to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities from the United States Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) for the state's pipeline safety programs.

"Pipelines are an important part of our state's infrastructure, but they can also be potentially hazardous," said Sen. Menendez. "It's critical to our environment and public health that we ensure the pipelines are safe. This funding allows the state to continue keeping our pipelines modern and secure."

The New Jersey PHMSA grant is part of their national State Base Grants program that supports state pipeline safety programs nation-wide by reimbursing 80 percent of each state's total program expense. PHMSA's state pipeline safety programs employ approximately 300 inspectors nationally.
