Republicans Cave to NRA Demands, Reject Sensible Gun Safety Solutions

WASHINGTON, DC – Moments ago, Senate Republicans blocked two sensible amendments that would strengthen our gun safety laws.    In reaction, Senator Bob Menendez said:

“I am incredibly angry that Republicans have once again caved to the demands of the NRA rather than listen to the demands of the American people.  Just five hours ago, Senator Booker and I stood with hundreds of New Jerseyans in downtown Newark to raise our voices in solidarity, demand action on commonsense gun safety measures and call on every member of Congress to stand up and put an end to the violence and carnage in our country -- now.

“Let me be very clear:   Ultimately, the gun lobby will not win.  They do not represent the will of the overwhelming majority of Americans in this country and cannot hold members of Congress hostage forever.   Millions of Americans are speaking up and calling on us to galvanize around this issue, and the intensity of their voices will only grow stronger until every single elected official finds the political will and courage to do what’s right.”
