Menendez to Launch Statewide Jersey Jobs Tour

Senator to unveil legislation to create direct jobs pipeline between community colleges and local businesses looking to hire

NEWARK, N.J. – On Monday, May 22, 2017, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez will kick-off a statewide, 21-county Jersey Jobs Tour to meet with business owners, entrepreneurs, workers, students, and local leaders to discuss how to drive innovation, create greater economic opportunity, and deliver prosperity to the people of New Jersey.

First stop: Union County College’s Center for Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) in Elizabeth, where the senator will announce new federal legislation to put people to work and fulfill local hiring needs by creating a direct jobs pipeline between community colleges and local businesses. The senator will then tour and meet with employers at Kearny Point, a state-of-the-art campus that provides affordable space for new start-ups, small businesses, diverse industries, and professionals, to discuss challenges facing businesses in this fast-paced, ever-changing new economy.

Sen. Menendez’s Jersey Jobs Tour will include legislative initiatives, roundtable discussions, tours of local businesses, visits to job training centers and other events focused on New Jersey’s diverse economy – from North Jersey’s bustling shipping industry and South Jersey’s cranberry bogs and blueberry fields to innovative sectors like healthcare, information technology, and the Jersey Shore’s thriving tourism, recreation, and fishing industries.
