US Rep. Luis Gutierrez to deliver keynote address

NEWARK, N.J. – On SUNDAY, October 15, 2017, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) will host his Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, an event filled with music, dance and culture highlighting the community’s contributions to New Jersey and the nation’s greatness.  Joining the senator as a special guest and keynote speaker will be Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a leading voice for Hispanics, immigrant rights and his native Puerto Rico. Both Menendez and Gutierrez visited Puerto Rico recently to assess the federal response to Hurricane Maria and are now leading voices for a wide-ranging recovery package for the island. State Assemblywoman Angelica M. Jimenez (LD-32) will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the event.

“At a time when some seek to reject our rich multiculturalism and rewrite our nation’s history, I’m very proud to once again invite New Jersey’s vibrant Latino community to come celebrate our rich heritage and our vast contributions,” said Sen. Menendez.  “By celebrating Hispanic-American history, this gathering will allow us to stand together as a community, united and committed to paving a pathway forward for all Hispanic-Americans and all immigrants who want to serve this nation, build a better life for themselves, their families, and for all of us.”

The event will also include folkloric dance presentations by various local dance groups to celebrate the Hispanic community's cultural heritage and traditions.  All New Jerseyans are invited to RSVP at:
