Menendez Statement on USGA Tournament at Trump National Bedminster

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today issued the following statement after several Senate colleagues called on the United States Golf Association to move next year’s U.S. Women’s Open from Trump National golf course in Bedminster, N.J.:

“No one understands better than New Jerseyans the pitfalls of doing business with Donald Trump.  Atlantic City is just now beginning to recover from the harms inflicted by Trump’s self-interested and damaging business practices.  While I certainly agree with the spirit of the letter, I don’t agree with penalizing the hardworking people of New Jersey who depend upon the jobs and opportunities that come with hosting this tournament.  New Jersey is home to many world-class golf courses—not named Trump—that are well-equipped and have experience hosting such major events.  If the USGA decides now to sever ties with Donald Trump, I would expect them to relocate the tournament to another course in New Jersey.”
