Menendez Statement on the Passing of Former Spotswood Mayor, 9/11 Hero Nicholas Poliseno

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez released the following statement today on the passing of former Spotswood Mayor Nicholas Poliseno:

“I was saddened to hear about the recent passing of Nicholas Poliseno. As mayor of Spotswood, he showed his commitment to his community, and as a first responder on September 11th, he showed his loyalty and love for his country.

“Because of his heroism, he suffered for years due to 9/11-realted illnesses. He was a fierce supporter of the Zadroga Act, which I originally authored that created the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund to aid our first responders. I’m proud that Congress this week finally passed legislation to permanently fund the VCF. It’s the least we could do to honor and show gratitude to the thousands of first responders, such as Mayor Poliseno, and their families, who sacrificed their lives and health in service to our country on that fateful day.

“My prayers go out to Mayor Poliseno’s wife and children during this painful time.”
