Menendez Statement on the Passing of Councilwoman Zaida Polanco

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez released the following statement today on news of the passing of Passaic Councilwoman Zaida Polanco:

“I’m heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of my dear friend Zaida Polanco. Just two weeks ago, Zaida and I were dancing Salsa together at the Passaic County Peruvian Parade - where so many of her constituents thanked her for her service, her leadership, and her unrelenting commitment to making life better for the people she served.

“Throughout her life, Zaida fought to expand economic and educational opportunities to the City of Passaic.  She was an exceptional leader in the Hispanic community, often giving voice to the voiceless. Whether on the school board or city council, Zaida always remembered who she was fighting for. Passaic is better off because of her.

“I’ll never forget her big smile that would light up a room and make anyone feel at home. We’ll all miss her laugh and zest for life. Zaida’s family and friends will continue to be in my prayers during this time.”
