NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today released the following statement on the passing of Teaneck Mayor Lizette Parker, the first African-American woman elected to the position:

“Mayor Lizette Parker’s death was so sudden and unexpected. I cannot express enough my heartfelt condolences to her family and to the residents of Teaneck. She was a pioneer and inspiration to many, who dedicated her life to public service and improving the lives of the people of Teaneck. Lizette Parker was a tireless advocate for civil and women’s rights, and worked hard every day to lift people up and strengthen the community. She was diligent, fair and thoughtful, and brought everyone together. Mayor Parker’s loss is profound and she will be sorely missed.”
