WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Robert Menendez made the following statement in remembrance of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

"Eleven years ago, New Jerseyans looked across the Hudson and stood witness to history. Today, once again, America remembers. We thank our first responders for their service and sacrifice, for what they did that day and the months following, and for all they have done since to keep us safe.

"Now, eleven years later, we still struggle to fully understand how the events of 9-11changed the way we live, the way we view the world, and the threats we face, but most of all we remember the 3,000 people who died that day, including 700 from New Jersey who lost their lives. We remember their families and the courage and service of all the first responders and those who were part of the long recovery effort, many of whom have now become victims themselves, suffering from post 9-11 cancers and injuries.

"This year, after far too long, under the Zadroga Law, 50 cancers linked to the toxins at ground zero will be covered. Finally, our first responders who have suffered because of the air they breathed day after day and their families will have the chance to get the care and compensation they deserve.

"Let us resolve never to forget the victims, the families, the first responders, and let us come together again as we did that day, one nation indivisible, each of us working for the betterment of all of us."
