Washington - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez today released the following statement regarding the deadly shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on Sunday:

"I extend my deepest condolences to those who lost a loved one in Sunday's senseless mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. This horrific event reminds us that we must remain ever vigilant to acts of intolerance and injustice that can escalate to hatred and eventually turn into violence.

"While we may never know what leads an individual to such murderous rage, to take the lives of their innocent neighbors, we do know it's time to enact common sense gun safety reforms. It is possible to respect Second Amendment rights while protecting innocent Americans. Whether it be in a movie theatre in Aurora or in a temple in Milwaukee, Americans going about their daily lives have the right to feel safe and protected.

"After this tragedy in Wisconsin, let us recommit ourselves to learning and understanding Americans of all faiths and embrace one another's diversity.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Sikh community during this difficult time."
