Menendez Statement On Earthquake In Chile

Washington - The Chilean government is reaching out to the international community to assistance following the devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the country over the weekend. U.S. Senator Menendez is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on International Development and Foreign Assistance, and he made the following statement:

"We are all devastated to see our friend and ally Chile face an unimaginable tragedy like this. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the hundreds who have perished, those who have been displaced and the many Chilean-Americans worried about their loved ones. As President Obama and Secretary Clinton have made clear, the United States stands ready to assist in any way that we can. As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on International Development and Foreign Assistance, I am working with the administration to ensure that we can provide swift rescue and recovery assistance through USAID and other agencies."
