Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month by introducing a bipartisan resolution recognizing the month-long celebration and honoring the heritage, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans throughout the history of the United States.

"It is a great honor to once again introduce a Congressional resolution celebrating the heritage and culture of Latinos in the United States and their immense contributions to our nation," said Senator Menendez. "As the largest minority group in the country, Hispanic-Americans are an ever growing portion of the American dream and tapestry. We are contributing to the economy and influencing political debate at historic levels, especially when it comes to the need to fix our nation's broken immigration system. On this month of celebration, we must reflect on the many challenges that lie ahead for the Latino community. Hispanic Americans, like the rest of the country, are eager tosee a reformed immigration system reflective of our country's values as a nation of immigrants."

"I join Latino families in Nevada and across the United States in commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic influence is evident throughout all 50 states and has enriched the fabric and culture of this great nation since its beginnings. From the classroom, sports, and science to the arts, business, and the Armed Forces, Latinos have always made valuable contributions to our nation. That is why I am proud to have joined my colleague, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, as a cosponsor of the Hispanic Heritage Month resolution," said Sen. Reid. "As we celebrate the countless contributions of Hispanic-Americans, we should reflect on what we can do to make sure Latino families have a fair shot. I reaffirm my commitment to fight for issues important to the Hispanic community, such as improving college access and affordability, raising the minimum wage, equal pay for women, and immigration reform. I congratulate all those who celebrate this important month."
