WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) issued the following statement after Senate Republicans filibustered a procedural vote to open debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act (S.2199), a bill which would help women fight for equal pay in the workplace.

"Today, instead of helping women break through the glass ceiling, Senate Republicans decided to reinforce it by refusing to allow the Senate to even debate the Paycheck Fairness Act. Equal work deserves equal pay, plain and simple. I simply don't understand why Republicans continue to oppose this bedrock principle of our nation, especially when it helps American families and the overall economy."

"While we may have lost the battle today, we will not allow Republicans to win their war on women. I will continue to fight to close the pay gap and give women recourse to fight against pay discrimination wherever it occurs."
