Washington - U.S. Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today blasted a federal government report that declares safe the Army Corps of Engineers plan to dump VX waste into the Delaware River. The report, released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the governments plan was adequately protective of human health.

The two New Jersey lawmakers released a joint statement denouncing the CDCs assessment.

The CDCs recommendation to allow VX waste to be transported into New Jersey and dumped in the Delaware River is flat-out wrong, and based on a rosy best-case scenario that doesnt stand up to the Armys continued troubles in carrying this project out. This fight is not over. Well wait for the GAO to complete their review, and continue to work with other members of the delegation to fight the federal governments plan to use New Jerseys rivers as a toxic sewer.
