Washington - US Senators Robert Menendez(D-NJ) and Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Essex County Improvement Authority $544,000 in funds to improve the Essex County Airport.

"The quality of our airports is crucial for travelers and for our state's economic competitiveness. This funding will help improve the facilities of an important New Jersey airport to help ensure thousands of travelers can get to their destination safely and on time. It will also help protect or create local jobs that local workers desperately need," said Senator Menendez.
"Transportation is the lifeblood of New Jersey and this federal grant funding will support the Essex County Airport," said Senator Lautenberg, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, which funds the FAA. "By minimizing safety hazards and improving operations at the airport, these funds will help improve New Jersey's transportation network."

Specifically, the $544,000 in funding will be used to remove obstructions in runway surfaces and rehabilitate the current taxiway lighting system.
