Washington - U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that the US Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $3.6 million for the Head Start early childhood development program in Monmouth County. The Head Start programs that this grant will fund will be managed by Acelero Learning Monmouth County.

"Investing in the development of our young children is an investment in our state's future, and is key to our competitiveness in the global economy." Sen. Menendez said. "Research indicates that all children, and disadvantaged children in particular, benefit from quality early childhood education and care. We are excited about the enhancement of this Head Start program for children and families in Monmouth County."

"Investing in our children's education means investing in their future," Sen. Lautenberg said. "By funding Head Start programs in New Jersey, we're giving our children the chance to learn the skills they need to succeed throughout their lives."

Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.
