Menendez Joins Women Around the World in Celebration of International Women’s Day

Washington - US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today released the following statement in celebration of International Women's Day:

"Today we celebrate and honor women worldwide: our mothers, our daughters and our sisters. We celebrate their invaluable and countless cultural, political and economic contributions to our families, communities and lives. This is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the great achievements women have made and will continue to make - especially those women who are dedicating their lives to end hunger and poverty around the world.

"While we have made significant progress in closing the equality gap in this country - whether through the women's suffrage movement, or the struggle for equal pay - we still, at the beginning of the 21st century, face a number of challenges threatening women's rights, among them the threat to women's reproductive rights. That's why I will continue to fight on behalf of women and their families despite the political climate in Washington, D.C."

In celebration of Women's History Month, on March 11th Senator Menendez is holding his Third Annual Women of Distinction Awards where he will be presenting six New Jersey women with the Evangelina Menendez Trailblazer Award. Click here for more information on how to attend the event.

Senator Menendez has long been working to provide for unquestionable equal rights of women under the Constitution (Equal Rights Amendment), address postpartum depression, combat domestic violence and defend their reproductive rights. Earlier this year Senator Menendez received a perfect score on the Association of University Women (AAUW) Action Fund Congressional Voting Record for his work on issues of importance to women.
