WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) issued the following statement regarding his opposition to the nomination of Andrew Puzder to be the next Secetary of Labor:

“America needs a Labor Secretary who will fight tirelessly for the American worker, not someone who has spent an entire career taking advantage of and keeping hard-working people down.

“Andrew Puzder’s abhorrent treatment of his workers is incredibly concerning. As a fast food giant, he has played fast and loose with U.S. labor laws. He has fought against a living wage and strengthening overtime rules, and even advocated for replacing human workers with robots. He has single-handedly helped to grow America’s class of working poor and food insecure, while blaming the very government programs and protections that keep hard-working families from falling even further behind.

“Andrew Puzder is no more equipped to lead the federal agency responsible for protecting American workers from abusive employers than the fox is guarding the hen house. I therefore cannot support his nomination to be Secretary of Labor.”
