Menendez, Cortez Masto Introduce Resolution to Celebrate Latinas During Women’s History Month

Washington, D.C. –
U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) introduced a resolution to celebrate and recognize the heritage, culture and contributions of Latinas in the United States during National Women’s History Month. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) cosponsored the resolution in the Senate and Representative Lou Correa (D-Calif.) introduced a companion resolution in the House of Representatives.

“Throughout our nation’s history, the contributions of Latinas in science, the arts, medicine and many other fields have strengthened and enriched American society, despite the unique challenges they have had to overcome as they paved their own paths to success,” said Sen. Cortez Masto. “During National Women’s History Month, I want to honor the millions of Latinas whose contributions have made this country better, and celebrate those who blazed their own trails to inspire the next generation.”

“As one of the only Latinos in the Senate, I take pride in joining my colleagues this Women’s History Month to celebrate and honor the extraordinary contributions Latinas continue to make to the social, political, and cultural fabric of this nation,” said Sen. Menendez. “At a time when we find ourselves fighting against those who would turn back the clock on a half-century of progress on the rights of all women and communities of color in America, we must stand together to make certain Latinas are not once again left on the outside looking in on the major issues of the day.”

“Latinas have been making American better since our nation’s inception and have contributed in numerous ways including business, the arts, and public service at every level of government,” said Rep. Correa. “I introduced this resolution not only to honor Latinas but to inspire young Latinas. Because of these trailblazers, they have no limits.”

In addition to Cortez Masto and Menendez, the resolution is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Chris Coons (D-Conn.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.),Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).
