WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced $2,174,730.26 in federal funding to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for snow removal costs the state incurred following the winter storm that dropped 27 inches of snow in some parts of the state back in March. Sens. Menendez and Booker led the entire New Jersey Congressional delegation calling for President Trump to approve Governor Phil Murphy’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration.

“From the outrageous amount of snow to the fierce winds, this winter storm wreaked havoc on New Jersey families, commuters and business owners. But the state and local authorities promptly serviced the roads to ensure safe travel for everyone,” said Sen. Menendez. “New Jerseyans are resilient and I will continue to fight in Congress to ensure our communities are prepared to deal with natural disasters.”

“As communities across New Jersey continue to face tightening budgets and growing snow removal costs, this federal funding couldn’t come at a better time,” said Sen. Booker. “Winter storms like this have a direct impact on New Jersey families and businesses, and I know how important this federal investment is to making our state whole again.”

The winter storm struck New Jersey from March 6-8, causing severe damage in Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic and Somerset Counties. The State provided snow removal assistance to Bergen and Morris counties due to the amount of snow that was dumped on those two counties.
