NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced $10,141,761 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support homeless veterans and their families.

“The best way we can honor our brave veterans is to take care of them after they have served our country. As a grateful nation, we must ensure our veterans have the resources and tools they need to live a healthy and successful life once they return home,” said Sen. Menendez. “The Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program provides critical homelessness services to prevent or assist Veterans and their families who have become homeless.”

“We have a sacred duty to provide those our nation sends into harm’s way with the care and support they’ve earned when they return home,” said Sen. Booker. “This federal investment honors our commitment to these brave men and women by providing them with much-needed assistance during difficult times.”

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program provides veterans and their families with housing counseling aimed at helping veterans find housing and prevent homelessness. The SSVF also assists veterans with obtaining VA and health care benefits, child care, legal services and financial planning.
