Menendez, Booker Announce Nearly $3M to Upgrade NJ’s Airports

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced $2,900,283 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants to improve and upgrade airports across New Jersey.

“Investing in our aging infrastructure keeps our families safe, creates good jobs, and allows travel to continue running smoothly,” said Sen. Menendez. “New Jersey’s airports are vital to our nation’s transportation system and I’ll continue fighting to ensure our state receives the necessary funding in order to keep our airports modern and efficient.”

“These grants will help modernize New Jersey’s regional airports, from Atlantic County to Essex County,” said Sen. Booker. “Federal investments in our aging infrastructure keep travelers safe and the regional economy moving.”

The grants include:

• $1,800,000 – Ocean County Airport (Toms River, Ocean)
  • To expand the airport’s apron. Last month, the senators announced $400,000 to replace the airport’s current beacon.

• $448,341 – Morristown Municipal Airport (Morristown, Morris)
  • To complete runway safety improvements. This is in addition to the $7 million the senators announced for the project last week.

• $396,000 – Ocean City Municipal Airport (Ocean City, Cape May)
  • To install new obstruction lights.

• $144,900 – Essex County Airport (Fairfield, Essex)
  • To remove tree obstructions from the runway.

• $84,042 – Hammonton Municipal Airport (Hammonton, Atlantic)
  • To install a 4,000 foot long fence around the airfield.

• $27,000 – Ocean County Airport (Toms River, Ocean)
• To conduct a wildlife hazard assessment to identify wildlife species, their movement, and daily and seasonal activities.
