NEWARK, NJ – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today announced the award of a Turnaround School Leaders Program Grant for $1,999,266.00 to William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. to fund a leadership pipeline for students and school leaders in order to improve the education experience for its students.

“Building student leaders is an essential aspect of our education system,” said Sen. Menendez. “Programs, like this one, help put students on the leadership path and provide our next generation with the tools they need to succeed.”

“Investing in our young people is essential if America wishes to produce high-quality talent and remain competitive in the global economy,” said Sen. Booker. “The grant announced today will help identify and support our future leaders to develop the skills they need to be successful.”

The funds will assist the William Paterson University in recruiting and selecting student leaders through a rigorous process and will provide high-quality training and professional development services. The program also aids in the retention of leaders through financial and alternative incentives. The expectation is that William Paterson University will have the grant renewed for a total of three years.
