Menendez, Booker Announce Nearly $10M in Federal Funding to Revitalize North Jersey Communities, Increase Housing Options

NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $9,834,002 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) to support the revitalization of communities across New Jersey.

“Investing in our communities spurs economic development, creates jobs, increases safe and affordable housing and revitalizes neighborhoods,” said Sen. Menendez, ranking member of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. “It makes sense to fight for this critical funding to ensure every community in New Jersey is a great place to live, work and raise a family.

“Each and every New Jerseyan deserves a safe, affordable place to live,” said Sen. Booker. “Expanding access to affordable housing and providing services to low-income families help make our communities safer and more prosperous. This federal investment will have a lasting impact on these communities for years to come.”

The funding announced today comes from three grants designed to revitalize struggling neighborhoods and expand access to affordable housing. They are: The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) and the HOME Investment Partnership (HOME).
