Menendez, Booker Announce Federal Funding to Renovate the Con-Vivir Facility in Hammonton, NJ

NEWARK, N.J.– Today, U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker announced $34,000 in federal funding through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to renovate the existing Con-Vivir facility in Hammonton, Atlantic County, New Jersey. Con-Vivir (Spanish for living well together) is a wellness hub operated by Allies In Caring, Inc., a Hammonton-based nonprofit organization providing mental health counseling and educational services to Latino, deaf and other underserved populations.

“Helping those affected by trauma, disabilities and addiction is a labor of love,” said Senator Menendez. “This federally-funded renovation of the Con-Vivir facility in Hammonton will expand their capacity to support those in need –with programs both in English and Spanish– to improve their capacity to function in work, family and relationships and therefore helping them become a contributing member of their community.”

“We must support and make essential investments in non-profits like Con-Vivir who are committed to improving health outcomes for some of our most underserved communities in Southern New Jersey,” said Senator Booker.  “This federal investment will help Con-Vivir continue their mission of strengthening New Jersey families and communities by providing comprehensive educational, recreational, and health programs that will help lift up those most in need.”

USDA Rural Development provides grants and loans to help expand economic opportunities and strengthen job prospects in rural areas. This Rural Development investment will be used to renovate this facility that helps people that are affected by trauma, disabilities, addiction or mental illness.

USDA is providing funding through the Community Facility Grants program. It can be used to purchase, construct, and improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses.
