WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) awarding of a combined $84,932,458 in federal funding to assist New Jersey public housing agencies preserve, repair, and modernize affordable homes across the state.

“This federal funding will help thousands of men, women and children across New Jersey access the safe, quality, reliable and affordable housing that all Americans deserve,” said Sen. Menendez, the ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. “I applaud this funding because it will build up our communities, boost our economy and empower our families to fulfill their potential.”

"Each and every New Jerseyan deserves a safe, affordable place to live,” said Senator Booker. “Having witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by people living in underfunded public housing, I know how important it is to invest in housing programs. I applaud HUD for making federal funds like this available to address the affordable housing crisis, bolster our economic growth, and strengthen our neighborhoods.”

During his time in the Senate, Sen. Menendez has led the fight to secure funding for the Public Housing Capital Fund.
