Menendez, Booker Announce $6.2M in Federal Grants to Upgrade NJ Airports


NEWARK, N.J. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $6,241,100 in federal funding grants for safety and infrastructure upgrades at several New Jersey airports. The grants will be used for a wide range of projects including runway safety improvements, improving erosion control and taxiway improvement.

“These grants give us the opportunity to vastly improve and update our airports with the latest innovative technologies that serve to help all New Jersey airtravelers,” said Sen. Menendez.  “I will continue to support and push for more federal investments like these that help grow our economy, create more jobs, and ensure our state’s economic competitiveness.”

“New Jersey relies on our regional airports to not only keep passengers safe and on the move, but also grow the state’s economy,” said Sen. Booker. “The funding announced today will allow several of New Jersey’s airports to make much-needed upgrades that will enhance safety measures and increase our state’s economic competitiveness.”

The following airports received grants:

  • $3,853,900 to reconstruct the taxiway and lighting at Trenton Mercer Airport
  • $609,060 to widen the runway and construct taxiway at South Jersey Regional Airport
  • $405,000 to remove obstructions at South Jersey Regional Airport
  • $500,000 to improve airport erosion control at Ocean City Municipal Airport
  • $300,000 to make runway improvements to enhance the safety of operations at Morristown Municipal Airport
  • $242,640 to construct a new apron at Lakewood Airport
  • $193,000 to rehabilitate the taxiway at Woodbine Municipal Airport
  • $70,000 to rehabilitate the apron at Greenwood Lake Airport
  • $67,500 to conduct an environmental study at Greenwood Lake Airport

In May the senators announced a total of over $8.4 million to upgrade Atlantic City International Airport and $7 million for safety improvements at Morristown Municipal Airport.

Earlier this month the senators announced $2.2 million to upgrade Ocean County Airport. They also announced $1.1 million to make improvements and upgrades at Morristown Municipal Airport, Ocean City Municipal Airport, Essex County Airport, Hammonton Municipal Airport, Hammonton Municipal Airport and Ocean County Airport.
