NEWARK, NJ- U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded the New Jersey Planning League $2 million in federal funding to provide women’s health and family planning services across the state.

“For more than 40 years, New Jersey’s title X agencies have provided crucial health care services to women across the state including contraceptive services and counseling, breast and cervical cancer screenings, tests and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, general health screening, and community education,” said Sen. Menendez. “Investing in the Title X Family Planning Project is essential to keeping women healthy and ensuring their access to critical health services.”

“Women, men, and young people across New Jersey rely on the critical, affordable and compassionate reproductive care and education that Title X providers throughout our state offer,” said Sen. Booker. “When it comes to advocating for better health options and outcomes for all New Jerseyans, we must continue to robustly support the efforts of programs like Title X that expand access to quality reproductive health care.”

“This funding will help our ongoing efforts to support quality, affordable reproductive health services for thousands of New Jerseyans at 49 health centers located throughout the 21 counties in the state,” said Joseph Alifante, President & CEO, New Jersey Family Planning League. “Our network of provider agencies reflects a diverse and vital component of New Jersey’s public health infrastructure for low-income women, men, and adolescents. Title X funded family planning providers offer critical health services such as well-woman exams, contraception, pregnancy testing, treatment and counseling for STIs, HIV testing and prevention counseling, and breast and cervical cancer screenings. For many women, our provider agencies are often the entry-point into the health care system for primary and preventive care.”

The Title X Family Planning Program is the only Federal program devoted solely to providing family planning and reproductive health care. Title X has provided high-quality family planning services and other preventive health care to low-income, under-insured and uninsured individuals who may otherwise lack access to health care. These efforts save almost $4 for every $1 invested and help avert almost two million unintended pregnancies per year.
