WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $238,573 federal Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) to improve safety and operations in Clinton and Harrison. The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“This grant will help ensure our firefighters have the tools they need to protect themselves and keep their residents and communities safe,” said Sen. Menendez. “There is no more selfless job than that of a firefighter and investing in them is an investment our own safety and the safety of our families.”

“New Jersey firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe and they deserve our unwavering support,” said Sen. Booker. “These grant funds will help ensure firefighters in Clinton and Harrison have the equipment, tools, and resources they need to save lives and serve our communities.”

The following grants were announced:

• $166,763 Clinton Fire Dept. (Hunterdon)

• $71,810 Town of Harrison Fire Dept. (Hudson)

Since it was established in 2001, New Jersey has received $157.3 million in funding from the AFG program to enhance response capabilities, as well as to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel.
