NEWARK, NJ - U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) today announced $167,000 in federal Assistance to Firefighter grants (AFG) to bolster response capabilities at Stanhope Hose Company and Milmay Fire Company. The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"Ensuring that New Jersey's brave firefighters have access to the best training and equipment available to respond safely and swiftly to an emergency is a top priority and that's why this federal funding is such an important investment," said Sen. Menendez. "We have to do everything we can to ensure our fire departments have the tools necessary to protect our communities on a daily basis.

"I am pleased that this funding will strengthen the response capabilities of the Standhope and Milmay fire houses," said Sen. Booker. "New Jersey firefighters deserve to have the best training and latest equipment to help them operate more efficiently in any emergency. This is not only critical to their safety, but that of the community they serve."

The following grants were awarded:

  • $158,776 to Stanhope Hose Company #1 for operation and safety
  • $9,168 to Milmay Volunteer Company for operations and safety

The AFG program provides funding to enhance response capabilities, as well as to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel.
