WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced $1,473,500 in federal funding to support NeighborWorks America organizations that preserve affordable housing, revitalize and sustain neighborhoods and create jobs in New Jersey.

“I applaud NeighborWorks America for their efforts in empowering New Jersey residents by providing affordable housing and building strong communities,” Sen. Menendez said. “When our families have quality housing, our neighborhoods are strong and our state is prosperous.

“Each and every New Jersey family, regardless of their socioeconomic background, deserves the dignity of safe and affordable housing,” said Sen. Booker. “Proven federal programs like this are key to helping lift up some of our most vulnerable populations, strengthening our neighborhoods, and spurring economic development.”

“With the generous support of Congress, NeighborWorks America is proud to award these grants to NeighborWorks network organizations throughout all fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia to provide affordable housing opportunities, build strong neighborhoods, and create jobs. Through our strong investment in our network, we franchise excellence throughout our nearly 250 organizations,” said NeighborWorks America’s Interim President and CEO Jeffrey Bryson. “A strong indicator of the value of these grants is that in fiscal year 2017, we leveraged $59 dollars of other investments for every $1 provided by Congress to NeighborWorks America – resulting in a direct investment of $8.3 billion in communities across the country.”

The following organizations were awarded grants:

  • New Jersey Community Capital - $558,000
  • Affordable Housing Alliance, INC. - $211,500
  • St. Joseph’s Carpenter Society - $195, 500
  • Housing and Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. - $188,500
  • Housing Partnership for Morris County - $160,000
  • La Casa de Don Pedro, Inc. - $160,000
