WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Thomas Perez to be our nation's next Secretary of Labor on a 54-46 vote.

"Today's confirmation of Tom Perez as our nation's next Secretary of Labor is a victory for all American workers which is why I'm incredibly pleased the Senate finally confirmed this eminently qualified nominee. Tom Perez is a respected American public servant who brings a compelling personal story, a wealth of knowledge, and strong leadership abilities to the Department of Labor. The American people sent us here to govern and today we took a good step in that direction. As a result, the Department of Labor will now have the strong leadership necessary to continue to create jobs and get people back to work."

Senator Menendez, Chairman of the Hispanic Task Force (HTF), led a Hispanic Task Force letter sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and HELP Committee Chairman Tom Harkin prior to the HELP Committee's vote on Perez's nomination and issued a statement applauding the approval of Perez's nomination when it cleared Committee; Senator Menendez also spoke on the Senate floor in support of Tom Perez's nomination and against Republican obstructionism.
